Over the last 3 years we have had the unfortunate task of arranging funerals for 37 people who suffered overdoses. To our discontent, this is still an ongoing situation as to which, we have become quite disturbed as to what is happening pertaining to opioid overdoses etc. in our community and have decided to host a Drug Awareness Information Session in the Main and Danforth area. We have the full support of Service Corporation International (Dignity Memorial), to host such an event.
Purpose of this program
Substance abuse and drug dependency are problems of significant proportions in your society today. They are the leading causes of preventable illness, disability and DEATH in Canada. Drug dependency can become a disease that affects not only individuals but every component of the family, workplace and the community.
Event
We will host this event on Saturday September 14, 2019 at 1pm at Hope United Church at (Main & Danforth). This venue is able to accommodate a large number of attendee’s and we aspire to fill the church to those who are interested in this topic.
What is to be gained from this awareness presentation
Our primary objective of this program is to educate and spread drug abuse awareness within my community. It usually begins with parents educating their children at home, as time passes, this awareness program will provide information on what to do and how to show support when a friend or family member is going through rehabilitation. Resources will be available to all that attend.
